Named in honor of longtime Duke Athletics physician Dr. Frank Bassett, the Bassett Society was established in 1985 to aid Duke student-athletes in their pursuit of careers in medicine and dentistry. The group provides education in the medical and dental fields while encouraging scientific research primarily related to the treatment of injuries associated with competitive sports.
The Bassett Society is committed to helping make the dreams of young doctors and dentists a reality. By providing scholarships to Duke athletes entering medical or dental school, society members not only honor the legacy of Dr. Bassett, but also ensure a bright and hopeful future for our next generation of healthcare providers.

Each year, the members of the Bassett Society gather to share our current activities and our past experiences—and, of course, to cheer on the Blue Devils football team! Join us for this year’s meeting.
A person is eligible for membership either by lettering at Duke University as a varsity athlete or cheerleader and enrolling in medical/dental school, or by lettering in a varsity sport at another school and serving on the Duke University Medical Center faculty.
