In April, Duke Orthopaedics partnered with The Perry Initiative, an outreach program organization for young females in high school interested in careers in Engineering and Orthopaedic Surgery. The day-long program is an annual event hosted by our department to expose these students to our amazing field!
This year, there were approximately 40 students present. Organized by Eugene Rossitch and Dr. Erica Taylor, participants performed mock orthopaedic surgeries on saw-bones, while also hearing from prominent women engineers and surgeons in the field.
We would like to give a big THANK YOU to our faculty, residents and PAs who assisted in execution of this event and served and both instructors and mentors:
- Faculty: Ben Alman, Joe Minchew, Bill Richardson, Amy McNulty, Melissa Erickson, Brian Brigman, Jocelyn Wittstein, Steve Olson
- APPs: Tam Huynh, Jennifer Dye
- Residents: Kendall Bradley
This is an amazingly impactful outreach program that our Department has provided annually. Thank you to all who offered their support!
