K-Lab awarded grant through the MedBlue program

Research

We would like to congratulate Dr. Tim Sell and the K-Lab, who were recently awarded a grant through the MedBlue program for their submission, "Validation of an Instrumented Assessment of Knee Stability for Injury Prevention." From discovery to commercialization, the mission of MedBlue is to identify promising ideas, discoveries and technologies with commercial potential at Duke University Medical Center and assist in making them a reality. MedBlue Incubator provides seed funding, early-stage business support and opportunities for partnerships.

The grant will help Dr. Sell and the K-Lab develop an operating dynamic joint stability assessment prototype of three wearable inertial measurement units; proprietary signal processing; and a software application that is reliable, valid, and can be deployed in clinics and remote locations, specifically to prevent primary ACL and reinjury following ACL reconstruction.

The K-Lab will work with Dr. Brian Mann in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on the project and an app developer to complete a minimal viable product for demonstration.
