On Oct. 21-22, three Department of Orthopaedic Surgery faculty members participated in the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (AOPT) Consensus Conference. The goal was to initiate the development of research and public policy agendas for the Academy that align with American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) initiatives and help to facilitate musculoskeletal physical therapy practice innovation.

Faculty members who participated were Trevor Lentz, PT, PhD, MPH, Chad Cook, PT, PhD, MBA, FAPTA, and Corey Simon, DPT, PhD. They were among 19 experts who work at federal, academic, and private institutions and represent a multitude of APTA sections and subcommittees.

The group also discussed synergies within the AOPT and the broader APTA agendas and what the group felt the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy is best aligned to tackle.  They will continue to meet virtually to develop the AOPT research and policy agendas by early 2024.
