The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting is just a few weeks away (March 7–11, 2023). Duke Orthopaedics will be well represented with 100+ outstanding presentations, papers, cases, classes, posters, and more.

Members of various Duke Ortho research teams shared amazing work at the 2023 Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) annual event in Dallas this week.

The newly released 2022 NIH Blue Ridge rankings show for the first time that Duke Orthopaedic Surgery is ranked No. 1 in the United States for NIH funding for an orthopaedics department. Shyni Varghese, PhD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, ranked first in funding for a Principal Investigator (PI) and Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, ranked seventh in an orthopaedics department.

Joseph A. Janicki, MD, will be the Ralph Coonrad Visiting Professor on Feb. 8. 

Paul J.W. Tawney, MD, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, will retire on Feb. 3, 2023.

David S. Ruch, MD, currently vice president of the American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS), has been named president-elect of the AAHS.

Elizabeth “Liz” Scott, MD, has joined the Division of Sports Medicine as of Jan. 9, 2023, and will be a part of the Hip Preservation Team.
