Dr. Hreha graduated from Misericordia University in 2006 with a Master’s in Occupational Therapy. She started working at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation as a clinician on the stroke unit, eventually collaborating with the Kessler Foundation scientists on stroke research. She pursued a research doctorate initially to contribute to the lack of evidence on assessment and treatment options for people with spatial neglect symptoms post-stroke. In 2017, she graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, with an EdD in Motor Learning and Occupational Therapy and then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Washington. Before coming to Duke, Dr. Hreha was supported as a K12 scholar in the Rehabilitation Research Career Development Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She expanded her research to include vision impairments common to aging individuals. Dr. Hreha has been awarded honors such as the Young Investigator Award in Post-Acute Stroke Rehabilitation in 2018 by the National Stroke Association and the American Congress for Rehabilitation Medicine. In addition to her academic appointment, Dr. Hreha works at Duke Eye Center as an occupational therapist.
