At Duke Sports Medicine, our team is committed to advancing the understanding of injury mechanisms and prevention strategies to enhance patient care directly. We take pride in fostering a culture of innovation and research development, with our fellows and residents playing a vital role in these efforts. All research within our division adheres to the highest ethical standards, is IRB-approved, and is closely regulated.

Our research encompasses a wide range of areas, including knee injuries (such as ACL, MPFL, osteochondral treatment, and meniscal repair), shoulder conditions (including anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacement, rotator cuff injuries, and instability), hip disorders (such as FAI and labral injuries), concussion management, orthobiologics (regenerative medicine), musculoskeletal ultrasound, return-to-activity protocols, biomechanics of injury and recovery, and comprehensive athlete care.

The Duke Sports Medicine Clinical Research Team is dedicated to supporting the Sports Medicine faculty, fellows, residents, trainees and collaborators in their research endeavors. Through our operational, administrative, and educational roles, we strive to refine, manage, and perform high-quality research.

We believe that good research starts with a strong question, a well-designed study, proper execution, thorough analysis, critical interpretation, and public dissemination. We encourage and support our collaborators in these practices.

We affirm that Sports Medicine is a diverse field, and our research is enriched by including perspectives from surgical, medical, clinical, rehabilitation, athletic, lab, and research staff.
