In November, we celebrate National Radiologic Technology Week. It recognizes the critical work of medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in patient care and health care safety. The week-long celebration commemorates the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on Nov. 8, 1895.
Radiologic technologists on the Duke Orthopaedic Surgery team perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, protection, and basic patient care. They may specialize in a specific imaging technique, such as bone densitometry, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, quality management, sonography, or general radiography.
Accurately and effectively treating our orthopaedic patients requires their expertise. The support and assistance generated by our radiologic technologists make all the difference.
Thank you.
