Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

Dr. Min Ho Chang and Carolyn Kern headshots

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to welcome a new faculty member and staff colleague whose experience and expertise will support the department's missions of patient care, education and service.

Welcome, Min Ho Chang, M.D.

Min Ho Chang, M.D., COL, USA Retired, has joined the Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Chang is a board-certified physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and brings more than two decades of military medical experience to Duke. Before joining the Duke PM&R Division as an interventional spine physiatrist, he served as an active-duty Army Medical Corps officer for 21 years. He completed his residency and fellowship training at Walter Reed and spent the past 12 years stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

His practice focuses on collaborative, interdisciplinary care and non-opioid treatment strategies for spine and musculoskeletal conditions. Chang specializes in minimally invasive, image-guided interventions performed under fluoroscopy and ultrasound and has a strong clinical interest in orthobiologics, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC).

Chang is also highly experienced in performing stellate ganglion blocks to treat the polytrauma triad of post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and chronic pain. His goal is to use a comprehensive range of treatment approaches, including rehabilitation, medications and targeted procedures, to restore function and improve patients' quality of life.

Outside of work, Chang enjoys spending time with his wife and their two sons.

Welcome, Carolyn Kern

The department also welcomes Carolyn Kern, who joins Duke Orthopaedic Surgery as a staff assistant.

Kern brings more than 20 years of experience in education, nonprofit administration and program operations. Drawn to the program's collaborative culture and commitment to innovative education, she looks forward to supporting students, faculty and staff while helping strengthen processes across the program.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Chang and Carolyn to the Duke Orthopaedics community. We are excited to have them on our team and look forward to the contributions they will make in their new roles.
