This five-year $3.1 million award (total amount) will identify a risk phenotype comprised of biological, psychological, and social factors for up to 450 patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty. This risk phenotype will be then used to predict the risk of chronic post-surgical pain so that novel risk stratification and treatment strategies can be developed and tested for effectiveness in this patient population.

Steve George, PT, PhD is the principal investigator on the project, and the team includes Oke Anakwenze, MD, MBA; Cynthia Coffman, PhD, MBA; Adam Goode, PT, DPT, PhD; Christopher Klifto, MD; Virginia Kraus, MD, PhD; Tally Lassiter, MD; and Corey Simon, DPT, PhD.

The University of Florida's collaborators are Roger Fillingim, PhD, and Peggy Wallace, PhD.

Best of luck to this team as they work toward starting enrollment in the last quarter of 2023!
