Tahmeko McDonald, staff assistant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, recently graduated as a member of the inaugural class of the Administrative Professionals Affinity Group (APAG) Career Pathways Program.

Founded in spring 2026 by APAG Professional Development Chairs Shanel Theirse and La Tonya Raines, along with APAG co-founder Nathalia Davis, the program provides participants with shadowing and administrative experiential learning opportunities designed to support professional growth and career advancement.

Through the program, McDonald gained exposure to human resources and finance operations, learning from Carlton Brunson, Bonni Simmons, Shanel Theirse and Barbara Shaw.

“Participating in the APAG Career Pathways Program provided valuable insight into the daily responsibilities, challenges and strategic decision-making involved in both Human Resources and Finance,” McDonald said. “I gained a better understanding of how their roles support employees and the organization’s overall goals.”

McDonald said the experience strengthened her interest in expanding her knowledge of finance, administration and strategic planning while providing insight into the competencies needed for success in those areas.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this program and apply what I learned as I continue pursuing professional growth and career advancement,” she said.
