We are excited to welcome Rebecca Wadlinger, DO, to our Sports Division. Dr. Wadlinger comes to Duke most recently from Penn State University where she has been working as a team physician for several of their athletics teams as well as helping to teach the family medicine residents and sports medicine fellow. At Penn State, she has taught didactic courses as well as serving as served in the Physician Specialty CareConnect Optimization Project
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Rebecca attended Duquesne University, majoring in athletic training. While at Duquesne, Rebecca worked with Nike Lacrosse, Volleyball, and Basketball, Five Star Basketball, Basketball Stars of America, Point Guard College, Duquesne Lacrosse, Duquesne Basketball, Villanova Lacrosse, Haverford College Basketball, Haverford College Intramurals, U.S. Squash, Ultimate Frisbee, and Drill4Skill.
Rebecca received her Master of Science, in Organizational Leadership at Robert Morris University and participated in a Study Abroad Summer Semester 2009: International Public Health and Communicable Disease Control – Tanzania, Tunisia, Italy. Her academic accolades include Dean’s List 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010; John A. Short Anatomy Award, Dean’s Award for Outstanding Student in Athletic Training, and the Faculty Spirit Award
She had worked as an athletic trainer for two years before attending Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school covering Pre-participation examinations with Robert Morris University (RMU); College Football Games with RMU, Saint Vincent College (SVC), and Duquesne University; University of Pittsburgh Athletic Training Room Hours; High School Football with South Fayette HS and Pittsburgh Public High Schools; EQT Ten Miler; Pittsburgh City High Schools Individual Wrestling Championships; Allegheny County Wrestling Championships; WPIAL Wrestling Championships; Pittsburgh Marathon; and the local Tough Mudder.
Rebecca completed her family medicine residency at The University of Pittsburgh Medical College and primary care sports medicine fellowship at Atrium Health in Charlotte. Her sports medicine coverage in Charlotte included Pre-participation exams with UNC-Charlotte (UNCC) and Queens University, football and basketball games with UNCC and JC-Smith University (JCSU), College Men’s soccer games with UNCC, High School football at East Mecklenburg High School, training Room Coverage at UNCC and JCSU, Charlotte Marathon Finish Line, NCHSAA Regional Wrestling Tournament, and during the CIAA Basketball Tournament.
Rebecca’s academic interests include orthobiologics, minimally invasive procedures, and teaching. When she isn’t working, she enjoys being active outdoors with her Golden Doodle Remy, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and traveling.
