Michael P. Reiman, PT, DPT, PhD

Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Physical Therapy

Michael P. Reiman, PT, DPT, PhD OCS, SCS, ATC, FAAOMPT, CSCS
Dr. Reiman’s primary research focus involves orthopaedic examination and treatment, primarily of the hip joint and spine. Diagnostic accuracy of the clinical and radiological examination of both the hip and spine is an area of focus in his research.

Conservative treatment options for variously recognized pathologies, specifically femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and spine-related dysfunction, is also an area of his research focus. Recently, Dr. Reiman has undertaken a trial with attempts to determine which patients respond favorably to conservative treatment of FAI, and which patients are better surgical candidates based on patient treatment response and their beliefs about treatment effects.

An additional area of research focus is an athlete’s ability to return to sport. Dr. Reiman and colleagues have just published a systematic review on an athlete’s ability to return to sport post lumbar discectomy. This research is particularly relevant considering that Tiger Wood’s recently underwent his second lumbar microdiscectomy.
