Celebrating Our Trainees During GME Week and 'Thank a Resident' Day

As we celebrate Graduate Medical Education (GME) Week and “Thank a Resident Day” (Feb. 27), I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our residents, fellows, program directors, and coordinators who play an essential role in advancing the clinical, research, and educational missions of the Duke Orthopaedic Surgery Department.

Every day, our trainees demonstrate remarkable skill, compassion, and resilience. They care for some of our most complex patients, contribute meaningfully to innovation and discovery, and uphold Duke’s longstanding tradition of excellence. Their dedication strengthens the care we provide, enriches our learning environment, and advances our field.

During GME Week—and especially on “Thank a Resident Day”—I encourage all of us to take a moment to reach out to our residents and fellows to acknowledge their hard work, commitment, and impact.

Please join me in thanking them for their energy, excellence, and unwavering dedication to our patients and to one another. We are proud to support you as you grow into the next generation of orthopaedic leaders.

All the best,
Ben
