A Holistic Approach to Healing the Hand—and the Person

Empowering Recovery Through Hand Therapy: Meet Trey A. Washington, MSOT, OT/L

Trey A. Washington, MSOT, OT/L, is a Senior Level I Occupational Therapist with Duke Orthopaedics, based at the North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic. Washington helps patients navigate recovery after orthopaedic injury or surgery and is often one of the first clinicians patients meet during critical post-operative moments.

Treating a wide range of upper extremity conditions and serving as a Joint Health Program Primary Osteoarthritis Provider, Washington brings a holistic, patient-centered approach rooted in active listening, education, and collaboration.

“They come to me unsure, afraid, and in pain,” Washington said. “Treatment begins not with a protocol, but with presence.”

Guided by the principles of occupational therapy, Washington’s work focuses on restoring function while empowering patients to return to the activities, roles, and routines that matter most in their daily lives.
