Ortho Departmental Updates – Nov. 29, 2023
- The holidays are approaching – many things can be considered during this time, including building community, which was also identified from the department’s Culture Pulse survey results.
- Many studies show the importance of community to overall well-being, and some of these conclusions were shared. These offer optimal sizes for a community for different purposes, and our department and divisions are ideal sizes for various facets of a community.
- We can help build these communities by participating in department-wide activities, including:
(1) The Department Bowling event is at the Bowlero in Durham this Friday at 6 p.m.
(2) Our departmental Research Day on May 8 – Visiting Professors, including Todd McKinley, PhD, Indiana University, and Rick Leiber, MD, from Chicago.
- Monday, Dec. 4 – Comp Plan meeting for DHIP members at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

- Feb. 7: Treatment of OCD of the Capitellum in the Competitive Adolescent Athlete – James R. Urbaniak, MD Visiting Professor: A. Bobby Chhabra, MD, UVA
- March 20: New amputation advances: Douglas Smith, MD, University of Washington - Seattle.
- March 27: George S.E. Aitken, MD Visiting Professor – Keith Kenter, MD, Western Michigan School of Medicine.
