Thanksgiving Wishes

This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to join me in taking a moment to reflect on all we have to be thankful for.

It is easy to focus on the challenges we face, whether they’re day-to-day frustrations, broader issues within healthcare, or the many uncertainties we face. Yet despite these challenges, there remains so much for which we can be grateful.

Our work provides us with a unique opportunity to experience joy, distinct from pleasure. Joy is an internal, purpose-driven emotion that comes from making a meaningful impact: when a patient does well, when we help someone through a stressful encounter, when a student or trainee masters a new skill, when a discovery opens new possibilities, or when we find solutions to complex administrative or operational challenges. Pleasure, in contrast, comes from external comforts, like relaxing in a comfortable chair. External factors may limit our pleasure, but they cannot diminish the joy that comes from the importance and purpose of what we do.

We are fortunate to live and work in a community rich with resources and opportunities. Our department continues to make significant progress across all our missions. Together, we form a remarkable team dedicated to improving health and making a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.

On a personal note, I am deeply thankful for each of you - your hard work, your dedication, and your unwavering commitment to our patients, trainees, and department. I remain committed to supporting you in every way I can.

This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the positive aspects of your life and work. Focus on the joy you find in what you do, and take time to thank those around you.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, restful, and happy Thanksgiving. Please extend my best wishes to your family and friends.

All the best,
Ben
