The prestigious designation recognizes NASS members who have demonstrated sustained commitment to professional excellence, engagement and service to the spine community throughout their careers. Danisa, a NASS member since 1998, was among the 2026 inductees approved by the NASS Board of Directors.
According to NASS, Distinguished Fellows exemplify the leadership, expertise and dedication that advance both the society and the field of surgical and comprehensive spine care.
As part of the inaugural DFNS class, Danisa reflected on lessons learned throughout his career in spine care.
“I never know enough,” Danisa said. “The more I learn and I realize how little I really know. Spine care is complex, difficult, rewarding, and at times frustrating. I must keep evolving.”
Danisa also credited several mentors for shaping his career, including his father, Dr. Kola Danisa, along with Richard Whitehill, Donald P.K. Chan, Bill Richardson and Christopher Shaffrey.
“I have had many mentors and all share similar qualities: curiosity, boundless energy, the ability to adapt, willingness to share their expertise, and uncompromising dedication to excellence,” Danisa said.
The 2026 DFNS inductees will be honored during the inaugural DFNS Convocation Ceremony at the 2026 NASS Annual Meeting on Oct. 14 in San Antonio.
