Duke Orthopaedics is proud to welcome Dr. Jay Levin, MD, MBA, as an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Sports Medicine Division, where he will specialize in shoulder and elbow surgery. Dr. Levin brings a dynamic blend of clinical expertise, academic excellence, and a passion for innovation in patient care.

Dr. Levin recently completed a shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University–Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia, following his orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University Hospital, where he graduated in June 2024. He earned both his MD and MBA from Case Western Reserve University, demonstrating his commitment to blending clinical care with strategic thinking and leadership. His academic journey began at the University of Southern California, where he studied biological sciences and minored in business administration.
Originally from Newport Coast, California, Dr. Levin enjoys spending time with his wife and children. Outside of family life, he’s an avid soccer fan and a fitness enthusiast—interests that reflect his energetic and team-oriented approach to both life and medicine.

Professionally, Dr. Levin was attracted to shoulder and elbow surgery because of its complexity and the intellectual challenges it provides. “There are significant opportunities to improve diagnostic and treatment pathways,” he shares. “That makes it incredibly rewarding to contribute to the evolution of care in this area.”
At Duke, Dr. Levin is eager to work with residents and fellows, contribute to collaborative research, and serve the Research Triangle community. He also envisions a future in which sports medicine incorporates advanced technologies such as extended reality, robotics, and predictive modeling to improve surgical precision and patient outcomes.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Levin to Duke Orthopaedics!
