Queen’s University

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a diverse resident-focused program where the culture was proudly founded upon teamwork and collegiality. Moreover, I sought a residency program promising a robust clinical and operative experience, built in parallel with dedicated commitments to education and patient care, as well as strong ties to the cutting-edge of academic orthopaedics, providing opportunities to leverage the research infrastructure to challenge, advance and transform the ways by which we optimize the clinical management of orthopaedic injuries.

What are your research and clinical interests at this time?
Anything orthopaedics and with a strong clinical interest for combining trauma and sports/spine/joints, as well as the challenges of health inequities and access to care, with aspiring goals to alter the trajectory of post-traumatic arthritis and maximize functional recovery.

Currently, my research seeks to integrate advanced imaging biomarkers for articular cartilage as substrates for understanding the development and prevention of osteo- and post-traumatic arthritis. I also have a niched interest in the interplay between neurofunctional imprinting, neuroplasticity and biomechanics following traumatic MSK injuries, as a tool to optimize clinical management, rehabilitation and return to activity.

Where did you choose to live and why?
My wife and I opted to live East of Durham whereby we could afford to rent a detached home in a safe neighborhood with close community amenities for our young daughter to enjoy the North Carolina weather, and enough space to welcome our son in July 2023 and host the squad!

What do you like to do outside of medicine?
Life outside medicine revolves around my wife, Ryley, daughter, Juliette, soon-to-come son, and our Beernedoole Tucker. We love to spend our weekends cheering for the Heels on gameday, chasing gateways at the beach, or the mountains, and exploring the food scene that the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area offers. Otherwise, anything sports, 4Runners, workouts, start-ups or chocolate milk gets me fired up.
