Dr. Blake Boggess, DO, FAOASM, FAMSSM, FAAFP recently became the President of American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM). Over his two decades of membership in the academy, Dr. Boggess has been the Conference Chair, Lecturer, Moderator, Mentor, Program Chair, and Webinar Director and has directed ultrasound cadaver courses in many conference centers for the annual AOASM conference in various cities around the United States. He follows in the footsteps of Duke Head Medical Team Physician, Dr. Jeffrey Bytomski, DO, FAOASM, FAMSSM who was the AOASM President in 2017.
AOASM is the oldest primary care-based sports medicine specialty. It was formed in 1976 to fulfill the mission of a branch of the healing arts profession which utilizes a holistic, comprehensive approach to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of sport and exercise-related injuries, disorders, dysfunctions and disease processes. The founders, pioneers, and expert sports medicine specialists, realized that while there were several physician organizations that support sports medicine, there was not a forum specific for Osteopathic sports medicine physicians.
