Cesar de Cesar Netto, MD, joined the Division of Foot and Ankle on May 8, 2023.
His medical school, orthopaedic residency, and first orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowship were completed at the University of Sao Paulo (USP).
Later, he engaged in three additional orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery Clinical Fellowships at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He also served as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Orthopaedic Functional Imaging Research Laboratory for four years at the University of Iowa, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, in Iowa City-IA.
Q&A with Dr. Netto:
Q: What brings you joy?
A: The best part of life is, for sure, to be blessed with children and to have the chance to watch them grow. Nothing is more rewarding than spending time with my wife, Sabrina, and my daughters, Manuela (age 10) and Juliana (age 6). I also love our dogs, Bruce (Pomeranian), Harry (Golden Retriever), and Brownie (Springer Spaniel).
Professionally, having the chance to be a physician and care for people is another unique gift. In that regard, orthopaedics, particularly 'foot and ankle,' allows us to bring patients back to walking and their quality of life. The joy of seeing patients walking "pain-free" is unparalleled.
Q: What excites you about this role at Duke?
A: Joining the Orthopaedic Surgery Department and the Foot and Ankle Surgery Division is a big challenge for me. Not long ago, I was reading articles and watching lectures by Dr. Nunley, Dr. De Orio, Dr. Easley, Dr. Amendola, and Dr. Adams, and amazed by everything they had done in the realm of clinical, surgical, and research achievements. Having the chance to work with them now is a dream coming true.
I am hopeful that my experience and expertise can supplement the exceptional capability the department already has and that we can achieve even greater things together.
