Advancing Athlete Health Through Innovative Sports Medicine
While the Duke Female Athlete Program officially launched this fall, its roots were planted long ago. More than 20 years ago, Duke opened one of the country's first women’s sports medicine programs, focusing on rehabilitation and injury prevention for athletes of all ages. The Duke Female Athlete Program builds on that foundation and now provides the latest diagnostic tools and treatments to help keep athletes healthy. Importantly, these programmatic experiences are designed to benefit the entire athletic community by supporting performance, well‑being, and long‑term health.
‘This is a great initiative from within the department that collaborates with several other specialties across the system and within sports medicine,’ shared Jennifer Ketterly, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN. Ketterly is a Duke Ortho instructor, associate director of sports performance at NCCU, the Director of Sports Nutrition, and the founding chair of Sports & Human Performance DPG (a dietetic practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics).”
