The Duke Sports Medicine team provided medical support at The Soccer Tournament (TST), June 1-4.

The event brought together 32 teams of former pros and top college soccer alumni from around the world competing for $1 million in a 7v7 World Cup-style tournament.

“The tournament was high energy, fast-paced, and mirrored professional tournaments organized by organizations like FIFA or CONCACAF,” said Ryan Kimball, DPT, COMT, PT, Managing Director, FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence, Soccer Outreach and Performance Coordinator, Duke Sports Medicine.

Kimball said there were 63 games and that the team worked with more than 500 athletes.

"The Duke Sports Medicine tent was positioned in Athlete's Village and was used for pre-match prep, including taping, soft tissue work, etc.; post-match recovery includes Hyperice recovery equipment, soft tissue work, nutrition, and hydration products. We had to care for up to 8 teams at any one time," Dr. Kimball explained.

Duke Sports Medicine providers included Brian Lau, MD; Anthony Ceraulo, MD; Kendall Bradley, MD; Luting Eckensweiler, DO; Jocelyn Wittstein, MD; and Lee Diehl, MD.

Newtown Pride FC won the $1 million tournament prize with a 2-0 victory over SLC FC in the championship game.
