“I chose to be primary sports DO physician to be part of team to help our athletic teams achieve success on and off the field. Being a part of something bigger than yourself makes all the time and effort worth it.”
Where do you see your orthopaedics specialty advancing in the next five years?
Primary sports medicine will continue to grow in the areas of concussion, ultrasound diagnostics and treatment, and lifestyle/performance medicine.
What excites you about your role at Duke?
Working with our other team members (staff, primary care, and ortho peers, PTs, and ATCs) in sports medicine at the Duke Sports Science Institute (DSSI) and working with our Duke athletic teams is a dream come true for me. I am very fortunate to have been here for over 20 years.
I have also been able to lead our primary care sports fellowship program along with our primary care sports faculty for a lot of my time here. We couldn’t have success here in all the above areas without the support of the department and the university.
What are your current research goals or projects?
Concussion Vestibular Ocular Motor Screen (VOMS) evaluation in athletes.
What brings you joy?
Being on a beach with my family listening to U2. My wife, Shanda, and I have three children, Jarek, Trevor, and Ali, and a dog, Roo.
