Q: Where will your Orthopaedics specialty advance in the next five years?
A: “Primary Care Sports Medicine is such an awesome specialty because it encompasses so much - with our medicine background but specialized training in non-operative orthopedics, we can comprehensively treat patients for their musculoskeletal conditions. The most exciting advancement coming in the next several years for this profession is the development of more micro-invasive procedures, thus lowering costs and recovery time for patients.”
Q: What excites you about your role at Duke?
A: “I love working at Duke because I am surrounded by not only brilliant colleagues but also ones that truly care about their patients and the profession. My specific role allows me to split time between the office, seeing patients from the community with ailments that range from ankle sprains to ACL tears to SI joint dysfunction to arthritis (always keeping the day interesting!) and Elon University, working with the athletes for their primary care and orthopedic issues. I am also privileged to teach our fellows, residents, and medical students, keeping me updated with the latest research.”
Q: What brings you joy?
A: “My family and Goldendoodle bring me so much joy outside work. I enjoy running, hiking, and traveling. I'm looking forward to the football season to cheer on my Steelers!"
"I am one of the lucky ones that find joy in my work every day -- I chose to be a physician, specifically in the sports medicine field, to help patients get better and achieve their goals. In sports medicine, I work with my patient and other providers (e.g., physical therapists) to get the patient back to 100%. There is no better feeling than seeing my athlete or patient return to their sport or activity after recovering from an injury."
