The Duke Orthopaedics team congratulates Madison Celentano, MBA, LAT, ATC, OPE-C, an athletic trainer at Duke Orthopaedics of Apex, for going above and beyond for her patient at the Duke Ortho Apex Clinic who was there for a simple follow-up visit.
In this case, Madison was walking the patient to an X-ray and noticed that the patient’s calf was swollen. She then decided to measure his calves and saw a discrepancy in the size and texture of the patient’s calves.
She engaged the provider, Tyler Pidgeon, MD, who ordered an ultrasound to rule out a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) or clot in the calf. Madison ensured the patient could get right in for the ultrasound, which was positive for bilateral DVTs. The patient was admitted and treated and is now doing well.
