Please join in welcoming Dr. Warren Hammert to the Hand Division Hammert. Dr. Hammert started last week and has hit the ground running!
Warren was most recently a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery, and Chief of the Hand and Wrist Division at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. His clinical practice includes all aspects of hand and wrist surgery, as well as peripheral nerve surgery and microsurgery, treating patients of all ages, from infants to older adults. He has special expertise in the treatment of pediatric hand conditions, reconstructive surgery for arthritic and traumatic disorders of the hand and wrist, vascular disorders, as well as upper extremity nerve disorders.
Earning his medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Warren also completed a Plastic Surgery Residency at the Cleveland Clinic and a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Hand and Microsurgery at the Hand Center of Western New York. He is board-certified in Plastic Surgery and has a Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand.
In addition to his clinical practice, he is actively involved in research, with a primary interest in patient outcomes. In addition to his research at UR, Warren has been involved in collaborative studies with other institutions throughout the United States and Canada. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in the leading hand, orthopaedic, and plastic surgery journals, numerous book chapters, and has edited several Hand Surgery textbooks. He serves as a reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Hand Surgery and Hand.
Warren is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association for Hand Surgery, having served in leadership positions in both organizations. He is currently the Education Division Director for American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). He teaches and lectures on a variety of hand and upper extremity conditions and regional, national, and international hand, orthopaedic, and plastic surgery meetings and has chaired multiple national hand surgery meetings and courses.
Warren was born and grew up in Oklahoma and went to college and dental school there before going to medical school in Pennsylvania. He is married to his wife Debi and they have four grown children. Warren is an avid I sports fan – especially college teams and he regularly cheers on the Cowboys as a proud alum of Oklahoma State University. He enjoys riding his bike in his free time and has already found some great places to ride in his new state!
