Please join in welcoming Dr. Jon Dickens to Duke Orthopaedics as a member of the Sports division. Jon grew up as the son of a military family and while both of his parents are from North Carolina, he was born in Alabama and lived in Maryland, Virginia, Alabama (twice), and Indianapolis before attending Davidson College on an ROTC scholarship.
After graduating in 2001 he entered the Army at Fort Bragg where he was a platoon leader, executive officer, and operations officer in a medical support group for the 82nd Airborne and 3rd Special Forces Group. Jon went to Indiana University School of Medicine on a Health Professions Scholarship Program scholarship in 2003 and says he was fortunate to be selected to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Orthopedic Residency in 2007. While in DC, Jon met his wife Amy who blends his love of sports medicine with Amy's background in sports marketing. “The opportunity to train and then serve as a staff at Walter Reed during the past conflicts is one of the most personally and professionally rewarding experiences I can imagine and one for which I will always be thankful,” Jon says. After residency, he attended the John A. Feagin Jr Sports Medicine Fellowship at West Point and then returned to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Jon returned to Walter Reed after fellowship where he and Amy raised their two children, Mary Gray (7) and Jonathan (5), and report they are little (BLUE) devils! “We are incredibly grateful to join the Duke family and look forward to meeting everyone,” Jon says.
Welcome to Duke!
