Q&A with Dr. Brekke!

Hometown: Houston, Tex.

What brings you joy?

A: My wife and two boys, ages 4 and 2. These days, every day is an adventure with them. And I love a good debate about Texas versus NC BBQ.

What excites you about this role at Duke?

A: I am excited because it feels like my training has come full circle, and I am even more excited to carry on and expand the teaching role with residents and fellows in the future.

Where do you see your specialty in the next five years?

A: Demand for hip and knee replacement and revision surgery continues to rise. One could look toward the developing and increasing utility of technology in surgery. But even more critical, given that demand, is a focus on high-quality and reliable results from high-volume joint replacement centers and a high-quality education for future surgeons.
