Q&A with Dr. Hayes
Q: What brings personal and professional joy?
A: I enjoy exploring new places with my wife. We love to travel, try new restaurants, and listen to live music. I adore Chickpea and Olive, my two cats. Olive is a long-haired, 10-year-old cat, and Chickpea is small, eight years old. They bring me endless joy and amusement.
One of my favorite things about orthopaedics and adult reconstruction is our ability to quickly and directly impact people's quality of life. By improving pain and function, we quickly get people back to doing things they love.
Q: What excites you about your new role at Duke?
A: I am excited to join the Duke team. I grew up and lived in central Virginia for most of my life. Duke has always had a reputation for excellence. I feel honored to join a team dedicated to excellence in patient care.
Q: Where is your hometown:
A: Richmond, Va.
Q: What changes will your specialty see in the next five years?
A: There are many exciting facets of arthroplasty on the horizon. The role of technology in aiding surgery is a vast topic of discussion that will continue to grow and evolve. I'm interested in healthcare disparities and working toward equitable care for all our patients.
