Andrew T. Duncan, MBA, MS, PT, DPT, ATC, has been appointed chief administrative officer for Duke University School of Medicine's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and administrative vice president for Duke Health's Musculoskeletal & Rehabilitation Service Line, effective Oct. 1.
Duncan joins Duke from Penn Medicine, where he serves as chief operating officer for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He previously held leadership roles at the University of Florida/UF Health, including director of healthcare administration for the Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
In his dual leadership role, Duncan will serve as the senior administrative leader for the Musculoskeletal & Rehabilitation Service Line while also providing executive administrative leadership for Duke Orthopaedic Surgery. He will work closely with physician and administrative leaders to advance strategic priorities, strengthen operational excellence and support continued growth across Duke's clinical, research and educational missions.

Duncan brings extensive experience in strategic planning, operational excellence, multidisciplinary program development and organizational growth. Trained in physical therapy, athletic training and healthcare administration, he is widely recognized for his collaborative leadership style and ability to align day-to-day operations with long-term strategy.
At Penn Medicine, Duncan helped lead one of the nation's premier academic musculoskeletal programs. He also serves as a clinical lecturer in the University of Florida's Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Known for successfully building partnerships across complex health systems, Duncan has led transformational initiatives that improve quality, access and patient experience while supporting academic and operational goals.
In the Musculoskeletal & Rehabilitation Service Line, he will partner closely with Tyler Pidgeon, MD, physician vice president, to provide unified leadership across DUHS and help advance the future of musculoskeletal care.
