The Baht Lab Earns Prestigious Awards at the Orthopaedic Research Society’s Biannual Meeting

The Baht Lab at Duke University recently earned significant recognition at the Orthopaedic Research Society’s (ORS) 2025 Biennial Meeting, showcasing groundbreaking research in orthopaedic surgery and bone healing. This year, multiple members of the Baht Lab were honored with prestigious awards, highlighting their innovative work in improving bone healing and understanding the aging process in bone health.

Mingjian Huang, PhD: ORS/ISFR Best Poster Award

Mingjian Huang, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the Baht Lab at Duke University, was awarded the ORS/ISFR Best Poster Award at the 18th Biennial Meeting for his poster titled “Targeting Circulating ApoE to Improve Aged Bone Healing.” Specializing in inflammation and bone fracture healing, Dr. Huang employs histological techniques and tissue culture models to investigate how ApoE, a protein involved in lipid metabolism, influences bone healing in aging populations. His research holds significant promise for advancing treatments for age-related challenges in bone repair, potentially leading to novel therapies that improve healing outcomes in older individuals.

Kristin Molitoris, MSc: First Place ISFR Poster Award & Travel Award

Kristin Molitoris, MSc, a research technician in the Baht Lab, was honored with two prestigious awards at the ORS 2025 Annual Meeting. She received the First Place ISFR Poster Award and the 2025 ORS ISFR Travel Award for her presentation titled “Inflammaging in the Fracture Callus.” Specializing in the development of mouse models, Molitoris’ research delves into the role of chronic inflammation, or “inflammaging,” in fracture healing. Her findings shed light on how age-related inflammation impedes bone repair and provide a foundation for future therapies to improve healing in older populations.

These accolades highlight Dr. Huang's and Molitoris' critical contributions to advancing the understanding of bone healing in aging individuals and underscore the Baht Lab’s role in pioneering new strategies for enhancing orthopaedic care.

Congratulations to Mingjian Huang and Kristin Molitoris for their outstanding achievements!
