Celebrating National Chiropractic Health Month

At Duke Orthopaedics, we recognize the significant role chiropractic care plays in promoting musculoskeletal health and overall wellness. Joint manipulation, a cornerstone of chiropractic practice, has deep historical roots, dating back to 1552 BC in the Edwin Smith Papyrus, where the Ancient Egyptians documented treatments for bone-related injuries.

Modern chiropractic care was formally established in 1895 when Daniel David Palmer performed the first spinal adjustment on Harvey Lillard, marking the beginning of a specialized healthcare discipline focused on diagnosing and treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly those involving the spine.

As we observe National Chiropractic Health Month, we honor the enduring legacy of chiropractic care and its continued contributions to enhancing mobility, alleviating pain, and improving quality of life. At Duke Orthopaedics, we are committed to a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care and deeply value the expertise and collaboration of our chiropractic colleagues.

Please join me in recognizing and thanking the chiropractic professionals who help our patients live healthier, more active lives.

All the best,
Ben
