Department Faculty Advocate on Capitol Hill

This month, department faculty members and students traveled to the Nation's Capitol to provide expertise and advocacy for better patient care and access and to present research.

Kimberly Hreha, EdD, OTR/L, (left column) presented her research through the 2024 Emerging Vision Scientist Program, hosted by the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research/Alliance for Eye and Vision Research.

MaryBeth Gallagher, EdD, OTR/L, BCMH, (upper right column) accompanied OTD students to AOTA Hill Day. OT students and professionals nationwide gathered to advocate for bills that affect occupational therapy. Students met with legislators to promote occupational therapy.
 
Ned Amendola, MD; Will Eward, MD; and Dean Taylor, MD (right column) lobbied on behalf of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons for improved pre-authorization for seniors, encouraging a freeze on the 2.8 percent reimbursement cut and requesting improved access for rural patients.
