Earlier this month, Dr. Erica Taylor, MD, and Dr. Will Eward, MD, represented Duke Orthopaedics as invited faculty at the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Emerging Leaders Forum in Minneapolis—a dynamic, two-day program designed to empower early-career surgeons with the tools to lead with purpose and impact.
This year’s forum, themed “GROW,” brought together 60 exceptional participants from across the country. Dr. Eward led a compelling session on “How Adults Learn and Grow,” offering insights into the science of adult learning and professional development. Dr. Taylor facilitated an engaging, interactive session on “Identifying and Building Your Network,” guiding attendees through the nuances of cultivating meaningful professional relationships.
“It was a powerful opportunity to dive deep into how we build and sustain professional connections—clarifying the distinct roles of mentors, sponsors, coaches, and advisors, and reflecting on the relationships that truly energize and support us,” said Dr. Taylor. “I left with renewed inspiration and many new bonds forged across the orthopaedic community.”
The prominent roles of Dr. Taylor and Dr. Eward in this national leadership initiative underscore Duke Orthopaedics’ commitment to shaping the future of the field—not only through clinical excellence, but also through mentorship, strategic thinking, and community-building.
The AOA Emerging Leaders Forum continues to serve as a launchpad for the next generation of orthopaedic leaders, and Duke Ortho is proud to help that growth take root and flourish.
