Duke Orthopaedic Urgent Care Apex Reopens

Expanded urgent orthopaedic services now available 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends.

After a temporary closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, Duke Orthopaedic Urgent Care Apex officially reopened on Monday, September 8. The reopening marks an important milestone in Duke Orthopaedics’ effort to expand access to specialized musculoskeletal care throughout the region.

Located in the center of Apex, the urgent care center first opened in 2018 and quickly became a trusted resource for the community.

“Since opening our doors, our team has been proud to serve Apex with comprehensive orthopaedic care,” said Drew Smithwick, Health Center Administrator. “We’re excited to reopen and continue our mission of providing high-quality, accessible care.”

The practice has expanded to include nearly every orthopaedic subspecialty, and its outreach now features partnerships with local high schools and athletic programs. With the reopening, Duke Orthopaedics is introducing 7-day-a-week urgent care services, including evening and weekend hours, to meet patients' needs for acute injuries better.

“This expansion means faster access to orthopedic care, helping patients avoid long waits in emergency rooms and receive treatment at a lower cost,” Smithwick added.

The reopening demonstrates the dedication of the Duke Orthopaedics team and their ongoing efforts to enhance patient care in Southwest Wake County.
