Duke OTD Program Hosts a Successful Fall Open House Event

The Duke Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program held a lively Open House on September 27, welcoming future occupational therapists, their families, and professionals to campus. With 16 prospective students, 11 parents and partners, 19 current students, seven faculty members, and two practicing occupational therapy (OT) clinicians attending, the event was filled with energy, curiosity, and a strong sense of community.

Located in the heart of Duke’s modern facilities, the Open House gave attendees an up-close look at the program’s innovative curriculum, admissions process, and student life. Guests visited classrooms and labs, engaged in meaningful conversations with faculty and current students, and enjoyed a delicious lunch as honored guests of the program.

"It was amazing to see so many future occupational therapists engaging with our faculty and exploring the hands-on learning opportunities we provide. Events like this truly showcase the heart of our program," shared Tala FarahOTD’27, event coordinator.

The atmosphere was lively and inviting. Prospective students asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated genuine enthusiasm for learning more about the Duke OTD experience. Faculty and current students were equally eager to share their insights, stories, and support, creating a warm environment that highlights the program’s dedication to community and excellence.

“It was inspiring to see so many future leaders in occupational therapy engaging with our program,” shared Gair McCullough, MAT, MACP, admissions director, Duke OTD. “Their passion and curiosity remind us why we do what we do.”

Whether attendees were visiting Duke for the first time or exploring their interest in occupational therapy further, the event offered a meaningful look into what makes the Duke OTD Program unique: a collaborative spirit, a commitment to innovation, and a dedication to cultivating compassionate, skilled practitioners.

McCullough added, “We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and look forward to welcoming the next generation of Duke OTD students!”
