Honoring Juneteenth

Today is Juneteenth, commemorating the day Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas to announce the end of slavery, nearly two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

This day serves as a reminder of the struggle for freedom and justice, and the importance of honoring the experiences of those whose legacies have been shaped by that struggle.

Juneteenth is also a time for reflection—an opportunity to consider our role in shaping the culture of our department and beyond. We are committed to ensuring that every individual feels respected, heard, and valued. This commitment entails fostering an environment founded on collaboration, accountability, and mutual respect—where we listen actively, communicate openly, and take responsibility for the impact of our words and actions.

Please join me in honoring Juneteenth by embracing the values that help us grow stronger, together.

All the best,
Ben
