The North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic (NCOC) has set a strong example with its successful launch of the Duke Health Digital Front Door, first introduced in summer 2024.
Since its debut, NCOC has demonstrated clear improvements in operational efficiency and patient experience, including a 10% decrease in cycle time, higher rates of Patient-Reported Outcomes (PRO) and Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) screenings, and a 98% copay collection rate. Impressively, these gains have been achieved while increasing patient volume by over 15%, without hiring additional staff.
These early wins are now being replicated across seven additional orthopaedic clinics that went live in summer 2025, with rapid advances in PRO collections and further improvements expected soon. The remaining DHIP/CDHIP clinics are scheduled to go live by October 13th, supporting the alignment of processes and results across the ambulatory platform.
“The success at NCOC shows what’s possible when we combine smart technology with thoughtful clinic workflows,” said John Bonini, Director of Clinical Operations for Duke Orthopaedics. “We’re already seeing similar benefits at other sites, and this is just the beginning.”
