Olumide "Ollie" Danisa, MD, an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at Duke University and a spine surgeon, and his research team have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to spinal disorder research at the AANS/CNS Spine Summit. This year’s meeting, which received over 1,500 abstract submissions, featured some of the most groundbreaking work in the field. However, only 10% of submissions were accepted for presentation.
Among these top-tier submissions, Dr. Danisa's team from Duke University and Loma Linda University earned a spot as one of the top 15 abstracts. Their work was presented alongside contributions from renowned institutions, including Mayo Clinic, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), Brown University, and Barrows Neurological Institute. This prestigious recognition underscores the quality and impact of their research on spinal disorders.
The Todd Albert Scholar Award, presented by the AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, honors excellence in clinical and basic science research related to spinal disorders. Dr. Danisa’s team was awarded this distinction for their paper entitled, "The Role of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Deciding Fusion Treatment for Lumbar Degeneration: A Comparative Analysis and Narrative Review."
"This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of my research team and collaborators," said Dr. Danisa. "We are honored to be recognized alongside such prestigious institutions and are excited to continue advancing our work in spinal health."
Dr. Danisa’s research, which spans clinical and basic science, focuses on innovative treatments and techniques to improve patient outcomes in spine surgery. This award recognizes the research and reflects the ongoing commitment to excellence in spinal care and surgery at Duke University.
