Robert Tisherman, MD
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery

With a significant background in biomedical research, Dr. Robert Tisherman is dedicated to advancing Orthopaedic Surgery through basic research, technique development, and clinical research. His extensive training at the University of Pittsburgh's Physician Scientist Training track included a year of research and summers focused on grant applications, laboratory management, biomedical professionalism, and research innovation, followed by an additional year of orthopaedic residency dedicated to surgical research. He also possesses a broad background in engineering, having studied biomedical engineering and material science at Carnegie Mellon University, and has led projects developing a microfluidic procalcitonin detector, an automatic compression device for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and a shivering monitor for therapeutic hypothermia. This dual background in engineering and medicine enhances his ability to pursue biomechanical research, combining mechanics expertise with current surgical practice knowledge.
