Ortho Departmental Updates – Sept. 13, 2023

  • A federal rule requires that ByteDance applications (e.g., TikTok) not be used on a device used for federal contract work.

  • COVID data: Levels in the wastewater show high cases in North Carolina, but hospitalizations have not bumped up as high as in previous instances where wastewater levels were high. Duke is not changing COVID rules. The CDC recommended yesterday that everyone over six months old receive an updated COVID vaccination this fall.

  • Duke requires you to get the flu vaccination, and they will only allow you to be employed if you follow the policy.

  • Sept. 20: We will host the State of the Department event at 6:30 a.m. Exciting things are coming for the Orthopaedics Surgery Department. Please plan to attend to hear from many of our departmental leaders about our future.

  • The next IPEC Center Case Conference Series is “Care of the Older Adult with Hip Fracture,” on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. Please see the attachment to register for this virtual event.

  • We will hold a social drop-in event on Sept. 28 at the IPE building (311 Trent Drive) from 3-5 p.m. Enjoy light fare, beverages, and conversation with your colleagues.

  • Nov 8: Grand Rounds visiting professor Anna Miller, MD, Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery, Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs, Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Trauma Surgery, will present on ‘Quality of Life, Suicidality, and Moral Injury in Surgeons.’

  • Congratulations to the Duke Sarcoma Center volunteers on this past weekend's successful ‘Strike Out for Sarcoma 5K’ event.

  • Website updates are underway – if you have edits or visual suggestions to improve the site, please let Jenn Curtin know.
