Dr. Brian E. Brigman, a professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and director of the Duke Sarcoma Center, recently took part in a multidisciplinary webinar hosted by the Liposarcoma Support Network. The session, titled “Myxoid Liposarcoma: Insights into a Unique Sarcoma,” brought together leading experts to discuss the complexities of this rare soft tissue cancer.
Fellow Duke Sarcoma Center specialists joined Dr. Brigman: Dr. Richard Riedel, a professor of Medicine and associate director of Clinical Research at the Duke Sarcoma Center; Dr. Nicole Larrier, an associate professor of Radiation Oncology; and Dr. William Jeck, an associate professor of Pathology.
Together, the panel provided an in-depth overview of myxoid liposarcoma, covering its pathology, surgical methods, radiation therapy, and systemic treatment options.
The webinar provided patients, caregivers, and clinicians with a valuable opportunity to hear directly from experts leading advancements in sarcoma care and research. A brief Q&A session followed the presentation, allowing attendees to engage with the panel and submit questions in advance.
“This event was a great opportunity for patients and caregivers across the country to learn about the standard of care—and emerging advances—in treating rare sarcomas,” said Dr. Brigman. “It’s often difficult for patients to sift through the information they find online. This kind of session helps clarify the options available to them.”
This collaborative event highlights Duke’s dedication to interdisciplinary education and innovation in cancer treatment.
