On June 17, Duke Health hosted its annual Juneteenth Celebration, uniting team members from across the organization to honor the day’s historical significance and reaffirm our shared commitment to fostering a more just and compassionate healthcare environment.
Dr. Erica Taylor, MD, MBA, an orthopaedic surgeon and Vice President of Health Equity for the Duke Health Integrated Practice, opened the event with thoughtful reflections on the significance of Juneteenth and the importance of continuing to develop care systems that serve all individuals with dignity. “This day reminds us not only of freedom, but of the responsibility we carry to ensure that every patient and colleague feels respected, heard, and valued,” she shared.

The keynote speaker, Christopher Wolfe, MBA, MFA, a West Point graduate, Bronze Star recipient, and Duke MBA alumnus, delivered a powerful address. Wolfe traced his journey from military service to Wall Street and the arts, where he now works as a writer, educator, and Broadway military consultant. His remarks highlighted the importance of storytelling, service, and advocacy in creating spaces where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
The event provided a significant opportunity for reflection and inspiration, reinforcing Duke Health’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture where all team members and patients feel supported and empowered.
