Duke OTD’s Inaugural Class Achieves 100% NBCOT Pass Rate

In May 2024, the Duke Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program proudly celebrated a historic milestone—the graduation of its inaugural cohort. This pioneering group of students not only set the standard for future classes but also demonstrated exceptional academic and professional excellence.

Among their most notable achievements, the entire cohort earned a 100% pass rate on the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam, a testament to their dedication, resilience, and the strength of Duke’s innovative curriculum.

Throughout their time in the program, these graduates engaged in rigorous academic coursework, immersive clinical experiences, and impactful capstone projects that addressed real-world challenges in occupational therapy. Their work spanned diverse areas such as health equity, assistive technology, mental health, and community-based practice—reflecting the program’s commitment to advancing the field through leadership, scholarship, and service.

Dr. Barbara Hooper, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, founding program director and division chief, Duke OTD, shared her pride in the cohort’s accomplishments, “Achieving a 100% NBCOT pass rate is a remarkable accomplishment for any class—let alone a program’s first. It speaks volumes about the commitment of our students, the excellence of our faculty, and the strength of our curriculum. The Class of 2024 has set a powerful precedent for what it means to be a Duke OTD graduate.”

As they step into their professional roles, these new occupational therapists carry forward Duke’s mission to transform health and improve lives: their success marks not just a personal achievement but a collective leap forward for the profession.

Congratulations to the Class of 2024—trailblazers, leaders, and changemakers in occupational therapy.
