Duke Spine Experts Advance Integrated Chiropractic and Surgical Care

Duke Health is expanding access to comprehensive spine care through a collaborative model that integrates chiropractic and surgical expertise.

In a recent feature article, Dr. Justin Goehl, assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, emphasized the value of evidence-based chiropractic care in improving patient outcomes and reducing unnecessary procedures. “We’re trained to evaluate all spine-related conditions and determine what treatment is appropriate,” said Goehl.

Dr. Christopher Shaffrey, professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery and chief of the Duke Spine Division, added, “Spine-related pain impacts patients’ quality of life. For many, chiropractic medicine provides quick relief, and chiropractors can recognize when more serious conditions require surgical intervention.”

Together, their leadership is helping Duke deliver timely, patient-centered spine care across a full spectrum of treatment options.
