Rhine-Ruhr, Germany — The 2025 FISU World University Games, the largest international multi-sport event for student-athletes, welcomed a familiar face from Duke University this summer. Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree, Associate Director of Sports Performance at the Duke Sports Sciences Institute (DSSI), represented both Duke and North Carolina as a member of the NC 2029 World University Games Board.
Dr. Wicker McCree traveled to Germany to shadow venue and operations directors at the Essen site, gaining firsthand insight into the logistics and energy behind the Games. Her involvement with the NC delegation dates to the initial bid in Brussels, and she continues to play a key role in shaping the vision for the 2029 Games, which will be hosted in North Carolina.
In addition to her leadership at Duke, Dr. Wicker McCree serves on the Durham Sports Commission Board, where she actively promotes sports tourism and community engagement. Her recent work at the Paris Olympics and ongoing collaboration further emphasize her commitment to advancing sports performance and international partnerships.
“I’m excited about Duke Sports Medicine’s support of the NC WUG and look forward to contributing in any way I can,” said Dr. Wicker McCree.
With Duke’s expertise in sports science and performance, the connection to the FISU Games opens new opportunities for research, collaboration, and increased global visibility. Stay tuned as Duke continues to play a key role in preparing for the 2029 World University Games.
