We welcome Justin Goehl, DC, MS, as an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Duke Spine Division. Dr. Goehl brings extensive experience in chiropractic care and sports science, and his expertise will be an asset to our clinical team.
Dr. Goehl earned his Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree from Logan College of Chiropractic and his Master of Science (MS) in Sports Science and Rehabilitation, culminating in an internship with the athletic department at Eastern Illinois University. He further honed his clinical skills during his residency at VA-Greater Los Angeles, where he trained under several leaders in the chiropractic field. During his residency, Dr. Goehl was introduced to the primary spine care model, which ultimately led him to become part of the first class of the Primary Spine Practitioner Certification Program through the University of Pittsburgh. His comprehensive academic and clinical training is a welcomed addition to Duke's interdisciplinary approach to spine care.

A Passion for Family and Exploration
When asked what brings him joy, Dr. Goehl shared that spending time with his wife and two children is among his greatest pleasures. Their recent move to the Triangle region has opened up new opportunities for adventure. “We have a retro Winnebago camper that we love to take on road trips and camping getaways. It’s a fantastic way to explore new places and create lasting memories,” said Dr. Goehl. Beyond family adventures, he stays active by exercising, playing sports with his children, and enjoying the outdoors.
Excitement About Joining Duke
Dr. Goehl is eager to be part of the Duke team. “I’m thrilled to join such a respected group of providers in chiropractic and orthopaedics. There’s a genuine drive here to innovate and improve spine care; being part of that mission is exciting. Duke is truly leading the charge in developing care models that will shape institutions across the country,” he said.
From Illinois to North Carolina
Dr. Goehl’s journey has taken him from his hometown near Springfield, Illinois, to various locations across the U.S. “From the Midwest to LA for residency, to Dartmouth in New England, and now North Carolina—each place has offered unique experiences, and I’m excited to see what this new chapter holds for our family,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Dr. Goehl is optimistic about the future of chiropractic care, particularly in education and clinical training. “The chiropractic profession is entering an exciting phase, with new education and clinical training developments.
We are excited to have Dr. Goehl on our team and look forward to his valuable contributions to our patients and the broader field of chiropractic care.
