Tally Lassiter, MD, assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, has been appointed head of the Duke Orthopaedics Shoulder Section, effective immediately.
A nationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder surgery and sports medicine, Lassiter is known for his expertise in complex shoulder reconstruction, including reverse shoulder arthroplasty, total shoulder replacement, and arthroscopic shoulder procedures.
A North Carolina native, Lassiter earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke. He pursued advanced fellowship training in Switzerland and France with internationally recognized leaders in shoulder and knee surgery and later earned a Master of Health Administration from the University of North Carolina.
Before returning to Duke in 2017, Lassiter served on the Duke faculty and as chief of orthopaedic surgery at the Durham VA Medical Center. He later joined Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York, where he continued to build his clinical and leadership experience.
Since rejoining Duke, Lassiter has played a key role in advancing patient care, education, and clinical innovation. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the North Carolina Sports Medicine Person of the Year Award and Duke’s Outstanding Orthopaedic Resident Teacher Award.
As section head, Lassiter will lead the Shoulder Section’s efforts in patient care, research, education, and faculty development, while helping further strengthen Duke’s national leadership in shoulder surgery.
